A showcase of blues music from around the world – definitely worth a listen ! The story of The Blues music is well known. It was originated by displaced Africans, slaving on the cotton plantations of the Deep South of the USA, around the middle of the 1800s.

G’day I’m WillyT.

I grew up down-the-road in Ayr, before moving to BrisVegas for work. I finally made it back home to NQ when my ‘better-half’ fell in love with Bowen on a holiday, and we moved to the ‘Top Of The Whistsundays’ in early 2023.

I’ve spent most of my work life in ’the production game’, switching roles between pushing-faders as a Live-sound Engineer/Multitrack Recordist, and swinging-cameras as a Live Camera-op & Video Writer/Producer.

The story of The Blues music is well known. It was originated by displaced Africans, slaving on the cotton plantations of the Deep South of the USA, around the middle of the 1800s.

Traditional spirituals, work songs, ‘field hollers’, chants, simple ballads and ‘call & response’ story telling all went into the musical mix of the developing African-American culture.

In today’s world, even though the musical genre is well known, it still relatively underground. In many ways it is ‘hidden-in-plain-sight, unseen, but everywhere.

The old blues song that says ‘The Blues had a baby and they called in Rock & Roll’, sells itself short.

The Blues not only spawned R&R, but Jazz, R&B, Country and even Zydeco. The Blue’s influence can be heard every day, all around the world, in most forms of popular music.

With various combinations of guitar styles, mouthharps, piano, horns & vocals, there’s a Blues-toon for everyone.

It can boisterously happy, or melancholy and sad, languid and slow, or red-hot-&-scorching.

Tune in on Wednesday Nights from 7-8:00 PM on Gem FM 95.1, when I bring-it-on-home for ya’ll!

Have a great day. Whitsunday-WillyT
